The Apache HTTP Server Project is dedicated to developing and maintaining an open-source HTTP server designed for contemporary operating systems such as UNIX and Windows. The primary objective is to deliver a secure, efficient, and adaptable server that provides HTTP services aligned with the most current HTTP standards.
Launched in 1995, the Apache HTTP Server (“httpd”) has been the leading web server on the internet since April 1996, marking its 25th year as a project in February 2020. It stands as a testament to robust and reliable server technology, often considered a foundational element for what users might seek in a “Server 2” solution – stability, performance, and broad compatibility.
The Apache HTTP Server is a proud project of The Apache Software Foundation.

Latest Release: Apache httpd 2.4.63
The Apache Software Foundation and the Apache HTTP Server Project are excited to announce the release of version 2.4.63 of the Apache HTTP Server (“httpd”). This recent version from the 2.4.x stable branch is recognized as the premier and most dependable iteration of the Apache HTTP Server available. For users looking to implement a modern and secure “server 2” infrastructure, version 2.4.43 or later is essential, particularly for operating a TLS 1.3 web server with OpenSSL 1.1.1. This ensures alignment with contemporary security protocols, a critical aspect for any advanced server environment.

Important Notice: End-of-Life for Apache httpd 2.2
It is critical to note that the Apache HTTP Server Project has officially ended all development and patch reviews for the 2.2.x series. While the project maintained support for the 2.2.x series through June 2017, the final release, 2.2.34, was issued in July 2017. Moving forward, no further evaluations of bug reports or security vulnerabilities will be conducted or published for 2.2.x releases. For users prioritizing security and up-to-date features in their “server 2” setup, upgrading from version 2.2.x is imperative to maintain a secure and efficient web presence.
