Understanding the Report Application Server Setting

In application environments like PMS, S&C, and ORS (Global), the Report Application Server plays a crucial role in generating various outputs directly from the database. This includes essential business documents such as reports, faxes, emails, and export files, as well as XML files necessary for fiscal printing. Effectively, this setting designates the specific application server responsible for handling all these output generation tasks.

What Does the Report Application Server Name Setting Control?

This setting, categorized under GENERAL settings and of Setting type, within applications like PMS, S&C, and ORS (Global), is more than just a name. It directly dictates which application server will be utilized for critical output processes.

Key functions reliant on this setting include:

  • Report Generation: All operational and analytical reports pulled from the system.
  • Faxing: Automated sending of faxes directly from the application.
  • Emailing: System-generated emails, likely including notifications and reports.
  • Data Exports: Extracting data in various formats for external use or archiving.
  • Fiscal Printing: Generating XML files required for compliant fiscal printing processes.

It’s important to note that if your application server uses a non-default port, you must specify this port number along with the server name. For example, if your server URL is http://operaserver and the port is 4401, you should enter operaserver:4401 as the report application server name.

Why is this Setting Important?

Defining the report application server name is not optional in many scenarios. Specifically:

  • Fax Interface Functionality: This setting must be configured for faxing capabilities to work within the property’s system. Without it, fax transmissions will fail.
  • BI Publisher BEO Requirement: It is also a prerequisite for the BI Publisher BEO (Business Intelligence Publisher Business Event Orchestration), suggesting its involvement in broader reporting and data processing workflows.

If this setting remains undefined, and a user attempts to initiate a process that relies on it (like sending a fax or generating a report), the system will display an error message: “Fax/E-mail Delivery Setup is not configured.” This highlights the critical nature of this configuration for uninterrupted operation of these features.

Important Note: This application setting does not influence Confirmation Letter Customization or the sending process for confirmation letters. These functions operate independently of the report application server setting described here.

Configuring the Report Application Server Name

The available value for this setting is straightforward: you need to enter the name of the application server designated for report generation. Remember to include the non-default port number if applicable, using the servername:port format.

Affected Areas:

Incorrectly configured report application server settings can impact several areas within the application:

  • Menus/Screens/Fields: Specifically, features under Miscellaneous > Reports, Back Office Interface, and Cashiering > Fiscal Folio Printing are directly affected.
  • Reports & Report Forms: The generation and accessibility of all reports within the system.

Key Consideration: Only a single server name can be specified for this setting. The system is designed to utilize one dedicated server for all report processing tasks. Ensure the chosen server is robust and properly configured to handle the reporting load.
