Creating a custom Minecraft server with your favorite mods has never been easier, thanks to the CurseForge app. This guide will walk you through the simple steps to set up your very own free CurseForge server, allowing you and your friends to dive into a unique modded Minecraft experience. While the CurseForge app itself is free, running a server for others to join will require server hosting, but setting up the modpack is the first and crucial free step we’ll cover here.
Let’s get started on building your custom Minecraft adventure!
Steps to Create Your Free CurseForge Server Modpack
The first thing you need to do is get the CurseForge app installed on your computer. This application simplifies the whole process of managing Minecraft mods and creating custom modpacks.
1. Download and Install the CurseForge App
Head over to the official CurseForge website and download the app: https://curseforge.overwolf.com/. Follow the installation instructions to get CurseForge up and running on your machine.
2. Select Minecraft
Once CurseForge is installed and open, you’ll see a variety of game tiles. Click on the Minecraft tile to proceed. This will take you to the Minecraft section within the CurseForge app.
3. Create a Custom Profile
In the Minecraft section, look for the “Create Custom Profile” tab and click it. This is where you’ll define your unique modpack.
4. Name Your Modpack and Choose Minecraft & Forge Versions
A new window will pop up asking for details about your modpack. Enter a name for your modpack, something descriptive that you and your friends will recognize. Next, select the Minecraft version you want to use. Finally, choose a Forge version. For most users, selecting the latest recommended Forge version is the best option for compatibility and stability. After filling in these details, click the “Create” button.
5. Access Your Custom Modpack
Congratulations, you’ve created the foundation for your modded server! Now, click on the newly created custom modpack in your CurseForge profile list to manage its content.
6. Add More Content (Mods!)
To start adding mods, click the “Add More Content” button. This will take you to the mod browser within CurseForge.
7. Browse and Install Mods
This is where the fun begins! You can now browse through thousands of Minecraft mods available on CurseForge. Use the search bar and filters to find mods that suit your desired gameplay. To install a mod, simply click the “Install” button on the mod’s page. You can always add or remove mods later, so feel free to experiment!
8. Return to Your Modpack Profile
Once you’ve selected all the mods you want, click the “X” button (usually in the top right corner) to close the mod browser and return to your modpack profile overview.
9. Test Your Modpack (Important!)
Before exporting your modpack for server use, it’s crucial to test it locally. Click the “Play” button in CurseForge to launch Minecraft with your modpack. Create a single-player world and ensure everything loads correctly and runs smoothly. This step helps identify any mod conflicts or errors early on. If you encounter issues, check crash reports or seek help from modding communities.
10. Export Your Profile
After verifying your modpack works correctly, go back to the CurseForge app. Click the three vertical dots “…” next to the “Play” button on your modpack profile. From the dropdown menu, select “Export Profile”.
11. Configure Export Settings and Export
In the export window, you can usually leave the settings at their defaults. Click the “Export” button to proceed.
12. Save Your Exported Modpack ZIP File
Choose a location on your computer to save the exported modpack ZIP file. Remember where you save it, as you’ll need this file to upload to your server hosting provider.
13. Upload to Your Server Hosting Provider
Now that you have your modpack ZIP file, you’ll need a Minecraft server hosting provider to host your server online. If you’re using ServerMiner, navigate to their control panel, go to the “Installer” section, and click “Build Your Own Modpack”.
14. Install Your Modpack on Your Server
Within the “Build Your Own Modpack” section, click the “Upload Exported ZIP File” button. Locate the ZIP file you saved earlier and click “Open” to upload it. Finally, click the “Install modpack” button to install your custom CurseForge modpack on your ServerMiner server.
Enjoy Your Free CurseForge Modpack Server Setup!
That’s it! You’ve successfully created and set up your custom free CurseForge modpack server environment. The installation process on your server may take a few minutes. Once complete, you and your friends can connect and start playing your unique modded Minecraft experience.
