Experiencing data loss on a game server can be incredibly frustrating, especially when you’ve invested countless hours building and progressing. For players of Conan Exiles who opt for G-Portal server hosting, the fear of server wipes is a very real concern. This is a firsthand account of repeated, disheartening experiences with G-Portal server wipes, highlighting the critical issues players face when choosing a server provider for their gaming needs.
Like many dedicated players, I initially chose G-Portal for hosting a Conan Exiles server, starting back in Early Access. For two and a half years, things seemed stable enough, until suddenly, the unthinkable happened: a complete server wipe. Everything we had built, all our progress, vanished. Hoping for a quick recovery, we turned to our regular backup save files downloaded via FTP. However, our attempts to restore the server proved futile. Despite successful uploads, the G-Portal server stubbornly refused to recognize the backup files, forcing us to confront the devastating reality of starting over completely. Understandably, frustration and anger were rampant among our player group. Yet, with resilience, we rebuilt, reinvested our time, and found ourselves enjoying the game again, constructing new cities and communities. Later, with the release of Siptah, we even expanded, adding a second G-Portal server to our setup.
Unfortunately, the relief was short-lived. Recently, another update rolled around, and history repeated itself. Initially, G-Portal seemed unable to recognize our server versions, leading to hours of troubleshooting before we could even get back online. After finally resolving those issues and playing late into the night, we logged off, assuming everything was stable. The next day, logging back in, we were greeted with the dreaded “create character screen.” Our Exiled Lands server had been wiped once more. Interestingly, our Siptah server remained unaffected, at least for the time being. Learning from the past, we had diligently created a backup the day before, anticipating potential issues. But, to our dismay, the outcome was identical to the first wipe. The G-Portal server simply ignored our backup files, leaving us with no option but to rebuild from scratch yet again.
The repeated experience of G-Portal server wipes has been incredibly demoralizing. It fundamentally undermines the enjoyment of Conan Exiles when such catastrophic data loss occurs repeatedly. The unreliability of the server hosting, particularly the failure of backup restorations, raises serious questions about the platform’s suitability for long-term game server hosting. This experience is shared to see if other Conan Exiles players have encountered similar issues with G-Portal server wipes and to foster a discussion about server reliability and data preservation in online gaming. Has anyone else faced similar, game-breaking server wipes with G-Portal or other hosting providers? Sharing these experiences can help the community make informed decisions about server hosting and advocate for better reliability and data protection from server providers.
