- Agency Information: If you are seeking a background check for employment or licensing, it is crucial to provide the agency’s full name and authorization number.
- Government Agency ORI Number: For background checks being sent to a government agency, a Z – ORI number might be necessary. Confirm this requirement with your requesting agency.
- Valid Photo ID: You must present a current, government-issued photo identification for verification purposes.
- Livescan Pre-registration Application: It is recommended to print and complete the Livescan Pre-registration Application. Bring this completed form to your fingerprinting appointment at any Private Provider, CJIS, or Government Operated Fingerprinting Service.
- Payment Methods: Be prepared to make payment at the time of service. Major credit and debit cards are accepted. Please note that cash, checks, and money orders are not accepted at the Criminal Justice Information System – Central Repository.

Payment Information: All fees must be paid using credit cards (MasterCard, Visa, and Discover) or check (CJIS Storefront ONLY). The Central Repository does not accept cash or money orders. Additionally, a $20.00 fingerprint service fee applies per customer.
Fingerprinting services are available through authorized Private Providers or Government Operated Services. Please confirm their specific fingerprinting fees, as they may vary.
Utilizing Private Fingerprinting Providers
Private Providers, authorized under Code of Maryland Regulations (COMAR) 12.15.05, offer fingerprinting and demographic data collection for non-criminal justice purposes for the CJIS – Central Repository. These providers do not access criminal history record information, which is sent directly to the applicant or authorized agency. In addition to state and federal fees for background checks, Private Providers may charge their own service fees.
